Treatment 4: Exposed Sheet Piling
"Conventional" exposed sheet piling was used in two locations in this project; its application was limited to areas in the Garden's lake system where broad shelves would result in depths too shallow to provide adequate water circulation. This treatment was installed along shorelines with existing exposed sheet piling that was in very poor condition.
Treatment 4: Cross-sectional View
Properly installed sheet pile is an effective and long term shoreline stabilization method, and it takes up the least room of any method. However, it provides almost no aquatic habitat in the shoreline zone, and it reflects wave energy back into the lake and towards other shoreline areas.
